Professional Development

  • Seminars

    Designed to meet the educational needs of facility managers, IFMA’s competency-based curriculums address tasks and projects FMs perform daily. Instructors teach the principles of facility management and how these principles operate in the real world.


  • Self-Study Courses

    Self-study programs are designed for convenience and self-paced learning. Workbooks and audio-tape sessions enable the busy facility professional to obtain specialized instruction from the home or office.  CEUs and CFM® points are awarded for course completion.


  • Certification

    The certification process is designed to assess competence in the field through work experience, education, and the ability to pass a comprehensive exam. Since the program began in 1992, IFMA has certified almost 3,000 individuals. Demand for this valuable designation continues to grow. The Certified Facility Manager (CFM®) examination has been localized to many countries and is available in several languages.

    IFMA’s SFP® is an assessment-based certificate program delivering a specialty credential in sustainability.     IFMA has developed standards to recognize quality FM first-professional degree programs at colleges and universities. The program initiative was designed to recognize and encourage the strengthening of current, valid FM education degrees and assist in developing new FM degree programs.

    The website provides quick and easy access to facility management-related information and services.  It is the best way for the association to make available information on current facility management issues, as well as communicate what IFMA can do for its members.


    Members have exclusive access to resources and services in a members-only area of the IFMA website.  Some features include FMJ magazine, the membership directory, chapter and council tools, membership activity reports, and forums on facility management.

  • Facility Management Journal

    Members receive bimonthly online issues of Facility Management Journal (FMJ), the single best source of FM information. Published by IFMA, FMJ is written specifically for professionals concerned with developing and maintaining productive workplaces. Each issue provides readers with trends, cutting-edge developments, industry news, and practical applications and solutions for a range of facility-related subjects.  A print subscription is available to members for $48/per year.


  • IFMA insider

    Delivered to IFMA’s full membership each Friday, the IFMA insider e-news brief delivers the week’s hottest FM news and business trends in a mobile-responsive format.  This weekly digest compiles top updates from credible global news sources and industry Web resources.


    In addition to the global IFMA insider, IFMA publishes four regionally-focused news briefs.  Regional news briefs are specific to IFMA members in Canada and the U.S. Northeast, Southern, and West Coast regions, combining region-specific news articles and chapter events as well as a leadership component.
